Established in 1968, the Hostetter Museum of Natural History is home to more than 6,000 artifacts and specimens.

After months of hard work, the museum reopened in Fall 2007 with a new activity room (formerly the Brackbill Planetarium) with beautiful artwork and numberous hands-on exhibits for elementary-age children.

The fluorescent rock room, the 3,000 year-old mummy hand, the full mount American bison, Kodiak bear, and Rocky mountain goat, and two-headed calf are just few of the highlights.

The Discovery Room

Visit us now for lots of hands-on activities and workshops! This room, formerly the Brackbill Planetarium, is full of artifacts from the collection that can be handled and observed (including animal and bird skins, bones and skulls, shark jaws, preserved invertebrates, fossils, and rocks and minerals).

It also has aquariums and herbariums with live animals for observation (including Chesapeake Bay inhabitants, saltwater fish, crabs, tree frogs, turtles and more).

Groups

School groups by appointment only, please check our website for details.
